Beneath The Surface: Charlie Noiir

Hello, friends & thank you for joining us on another very special edition of Beneath the Surface. Today I’m joined by Toronto rap royalty, Charlie Noiir!

A veteran in the scene, Charlie Noiir is best known as a solo powerhouse, a member of hip-hop collective STAYOUTLATE and the lead vocalist in XNDR Q! Back with a brand new single, ‘REASONS’, Charlie Noiir reveals all…

What first got you into music/who inspired you to make music?

My big bro was a big influence on me (RIP). He used to call me his shadow because I would follow him everywhere lol. He had a poetry book so I had one. He started rapping so I started rapping. Basically, that’s it. I found my love for it though the first time I actually wrote a whole song.

How would you describe the music you are currently creating?

I’m flirting with a lot of rock influence right now. I don’t like to be put in a box. I make whatever feels good to me at the time I’m making it.

What does your creative process look like?

I’m usually driving actually. I don’t know why but I get great ideas when I’m on road. I’m always pulling over and recording a melody or writing a hook or line.

Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)

I need a record with Don Toliver his melodies are mod!

What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?

I’m never gonna be the artist y’all will have to beg for music from. Promise! Lol

What’s your top tip to rejuvenate your creativity/get over a writer’s block?

Write garbage until it’s not garbage. Anytime I get writer’s block I just force myself to write through it. Eventually, I get to a place where I’m not hating what I’m doing.

What’s next for you, what do we have to look forward to/ what are you currently working on?

I’m gonna drop a couple more singles and then drop my ep. I’m excited. I just like sharing my music with the world. It feels good to know my music is the reason someone is dancing or pushing through that last set of push-ups or w.e . It’s like I get to be on w.e journey my fans are on because they’re taking me with them.
