Beneath The Surface: Sam Wilder

Hello and welcome to another cheeky little Beneath The Surface feature! This time I am joined by the wonderful Sam Wilder. So sit back, relax and enjoy the ride…

What would you say first sparked your interest in music/who inspired you to make music?
To be honest, I have always been drawn to music. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to pursue it. As a kid, I was always writing poetry and stories which eventually turned into the basis of my song writing.

How would you describe the music you are currently creating?
My music combines somber melodies and instrumentals with stories about my past. I try to bare my soul when I write my music, and I hope that people can resonate and connect with my songs.

What does your creative process look like?
I tend to write most of my songs around 2 am. I find it’s easiest for me to lose myself when I know that the world around me is asleep, and I know that I won’t be distracted.

Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)
I’ve really been loving Ariana Grande’s new music. I think that her up tempo Pop and my emotional ballads could create a very unique sound. She is an incredible vocalist, and it would be a dream come true to work with her!

What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?
I am so thankful to every single person who supports my music! It means the world to me to know that people are finding comfort in my music and using my songs to help them deal with issues they may be facing in their lives.

What’s your top tip to rejuvenate your creativity/get over a writer’s block?
My number one tip for getting over writer’s block is to just keep writing. It is important to warm up your brain by writing every stupid idea that comes to your head until you finally feel inspiration coming back.

What’s next for you, what do we have to look forward to/ what are you currently working on?
I have a bunch of music in the works and have been hard at work building my musical library so that I can begin touring in California.
