It’s been a hot minute since I’ve sat down with an artist for a Beneath The Surface feature and when Cut CoCo came along, I knew he would be just the ticket! So sit back, relax and grab some snacks as we get into it with this Dj, producer mastermind.
What would you say first sparked your interest in music/who inspired you to make music?
I’ve grown up in a household that really appreciated pop music. I used to have to listen to my sister listening to the Spice Girls for ours and to be honest and I didn’t even mind it that much, haha!
But I also had a good friend who’s dad is a producer and we used to go to his studio and watch him work on mostly electronic music – and that’s what got me into producing myself. My friend and I put all of our cash together, bought some equipment and got started.
How would you describe the music you are currently creating?
I’m definitely working in a more chill house world. Summery vibes are my thing, so I try to get a good mix of tropical house and nice poppy feel good melodies.
What does your creative process look like?
With ‘crush’ I kind of stumbled across this Jennifer Page song and the melody was just stuck in my head for days. So that was my starting point. Put a nice, but chill and easy beat underneath, some bits and bops in the production for the sparkle. And that’s kind of what the process is like usually.
Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)
I would love to do a track with Halsey cause I love her voice. Apart from singers I would definitely want to do a track with LIZOT, Kyo or Lucas Estrada.
What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?
This year has been so difficult and I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to do all this writing and producing around the world for the past years. Not being able to do that this year has really made me appreciate all the people I had the pleasure to meet and work with. I try to stay in contact with them as much as possible and I want to say to everyone that you should do that, too! Make sure everyone around you is okay and all let the friends, family and partners that you can’t be with in these weird times know, that you’re still thinking and supporting them.
