Rila’s Edge return with the infectious new single ‘Undone’—a bold step forward that blends introspection with explosive sonic energy. Crafted in their box-sized Berkshire studio, the five-piece—Alfie Harris, Ollie Hedin, Jacob Green, George Maclean and Charlie Kennedy—have carved out a dedicated cult following since their 2021 debut, known for high-energy shows and emotionally resonant songwriting. Now, with ‘Undone’, they continue their evolution, leaning into a fuzzier, grungier alt-rock direction while keeping their pop-rock sensibilities firmly intact. Produced by trusted collaborators Jordan Timms and Max Smith (VC Pines, The Hunna) alongside Max Helyer of You Me At Six, ‘Undone’ is tight and textured, driven by boxy guitars and punchy drums. The track opens with a quiet melancholy that quickly gives way to an anthemic, emotionally charged chorus. As it builds, it lands on a thrilling middle eight—fuzzed-out, raw and cathartic—before closing with a climactic final chorus that demands replay. Lyrically, ‘Undone’ dives deep into vulnerability. Frontman Ollie Hedin shares: “We wanted to capture the same energy as a track like ‘1979’ by The Smashing Pumpkins, but if early U2 recorded it. The lyrics were written when I was suffering with depression and feelings of low self-worth. I had also just entered my first proper relationship and was completely in love. With those two events happening, I kept thinking about how people say ‘you need to love yourself before you can love someone else’. I felt like that statement didn’t ring true for me at the time and I hadn’t ever heard anyone dispute the saying before, so I decided to write about how love and low-self worth interact. The verses are the inner reflections and the chorus is the expression of the reflection. Musically, I wanted the verses to sound like an old rock and roll track from the 50’s and then explode into a big, open, indie chorus. We had a lot of fun recording this track and went a bit crazy using all of Max Helyer’s equipment to get mad delays and really crisp sounding guitars. The sonic compass of the band is starting to point more towards alt-rock with fuzzy grunge flourishes and we think this is a perfect track to start pushing in that direction.” ‘Undone’ not only showcases a band growing more confident in their sonic identity, but one that’s unafraid to confront vulnerability head-on—melding emotion with electrifying rock dynamism. Rila’s Edge are on the rise, and ‘Undone’ is proof they’re ready to make a serious impact. Read more
