Alternative, psych tinted rock quintet Psyence tease their second album Lessons In Forgetting Everything (L.I.F.E) on 30th September 2022 with their latest head banger ‘Nobody Understands’.
Opening with a pulsing bass synth which merges into a driving, unrelenting bass line, building a sense of suspense right from the opening, ‘Nobody Understands’ is quick to set a dark, overbearing tone. Whooshing, Hawkwind-esque synths and atmospheric vocals move from side to side adding a psychedelic edge to the opening while thudding drums add the to tracks gradually building energy.
The urgent lead vocal soon enters, adding to the sense of suspense as the track gradually builds towards an explosive breakdown with some intense, fuzzy riffs filling the soundscape. Ending on a fittingly explosive climax, the band offer an exciting taste for what to expect on the upcoming album.
Written during lockdown, the upcoming 10-track new album traverses alternative rock and electronica with huge guitar riffs, soaring melodies and twisted stories about dysfunctional relationships, love and male mental health. Psyence explain:
“Our sophomore album is finally here, we’ve spent a lot of time cooped up in the lab over the past two years working on this. Titled, “Lessons In Forgetting Everything” or “L.I.F.E”, depending on which way you want to look at it, it’s a tale of maturity, mental anguish and an ever growing need to break the mould and get away. LIFE IS NOT AN EXACT PSYENCE, but we think our second album comes close to representing who we are and what has happened in our lives in the last couple of years”
