Embrace your next chapter with Ian Janco’s indie-folk single “Something New”

If you’ve swung by Turtle Tempo before, you’ll know that we love anything with guitars – from grungey rock numbers to experimental blues to a sweet singer-songwriter moment. The flavour of today is warm indie-folk from Ian Janco and his new single “Something New”, which heavily features an acoustic guitar that is strummed consistently throughout the track creating a straight through-line. Built around those brushed strings, the songwriter as well as producer Ian has hand selected folksy violins, tapping tambourine and dancing piano keys which all flow together in synchronicity. It glows with the warmth and richness of an artist who has found his sound after a whirlwind of societal upheaval, cultural inspiration and personal tumult. The journey of discovery in “Something New” is the realisation that the closing of one door is where another opens, for example with a relationship.

“Something New was written shortly after a breakup in the first Lockdown. It captures the feeling of knowing that a relationship is coming to an end, but still having love for a person even though they’ve moved on. On one of the darker days of that time, it just poured out of me – an expression of sadness and longing but also a kind of optimism for what’s to come. I hope that some people resonate with it and helps them get through whatever they may be going through.”

“Something New” will feature in Ian Janco’s upcoming Rapture EP.
