I had a chance to chat with Netherlands-based producer, mixer and beat-machine extraordinaire, Camille Antoni following the release of his debut single, ‘L.U.N.A.’ ft. Pete Philly. Camille sits down to tell us a bit about the journey so far.
What first got you into music/who inspired you to make music?
As a kid I listened to The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Iggy Pop so I wanted to play the guitar, but we already had an old piano in the house so my parents signed me up for that. After a year of nagging my parents that I still wanted to play the guitar, they finally let me and I started playing along with all my favourite songs.
How would you describe the music you are currently creating?
What I’m creating is a total chaos of everything, I love in music. I like blending genres and different directions into the music I make.
What does your creative process look like?
I usually start with looking at something that matches my vibe at that point. This can be creating a sound on my synths or guitars or making melodies or chord progressions on the piano. When I found a vibe that fits I tend to make it into a rough beat asap! I don’t wanna lose that momentum.
Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)
There are so many! But getting in a room with Flying Lotus to get some music done would be insane.
What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?
Brush your teeth first thing in the morning. And keep on going, don’t let anybody get you down.
What’s your top tip to rejuvenate your creativity/get over a writer’s block?
Enjoy your life, let the music be for a moment and come back to it when you’re ready again. I personally need some input to get some output.
What’s next for you, what do we have to look forward to/ what are you currently working on?
Early November my next single, ‘Persist’, will be released and I’ll be finishing up my tape that’ll come out sometime next year. And I’ll be looking forward to some new collabs and projects in the future.
