Hailing from the Irish city of Galway, a seaside town on the west coast of Ireland, Eoin Dolan is a singer/songwriter and producer. His music combines heartbreaking melodies with lush instrumentation and classic songwriting finesse to create a vintage pop sound. We spoke with Eoin about his new EP June Hope, discovering new music and his future plans.
Why did you decide to enter the music industry?
I never made a conscious decision to do it. Music is something that’s intertwined with my life. It would feel very unnatural not to be producing music.
Can you tell us about your new EP June Hope?
The new record was inspired by my love of gardening amongst other things. I was sitting outside on my patio with a cup of tea one cold winter’s day and I started thinking back to my youth. I always enjoyed the changing of seasons and how that idea of nothing ever staying the same is a constant force in all our lives. When you’re gardening you attain a deep appreciation and acknowledgement of this transformative process. I wanted to capture these types of feelings on record and that’s how June Hope came about.
What was the recording and writing process like?
I started writing back in November 2019 with a view to putting out a ‘Summer EP’ for 2020. One of the positives from the COVID-19 lockdown was that I had plenty of time to record June Hope in my home studio. It was a really enjoyable process from start to finish.
Does June Hope have any significant meaning for you?
The meaning I take from it is to observe and accept change. Respect that nature and life, in general, may not always give you what you want. So, rather than getting stressed about things, take a step back and find peace with whatever challenging situation is taking place.
What do you hope people take from your music?
I hope that people will enjoy it and make some connection with it in the same way that I do with other people’s music.
What is more challenging for you – melody or lyrics?
Lyrics. I’m not great for writing epic ballads. When I put the words to melody there’s always a challenge to keep things as concise as possible.
How do you keep yourself motivated?
I would consider myself firstly a music fan rather than anything else. I think this has allowed me to be really creative and search out new ideas without getting bogged down chasing some elusive success story. I’ve seen other artists who go about hitting ‘targets’ like they’re working in a factory. What is sometimes forgotten is that music is supposed to be a creative medium and all motivation should start and end with that principal.
How would you describe your sound?
Melodic psych-pop from the west of Ireland.
What do you think is the best way to discover new music?
I think the best way of discovering new music is through having a friend or two that have a taste you would trust. For example, my friend Danny, who is currently living in Brazil, has introduced me to countless amounts of quality South American artists. I always keep in the loop with what he’s listening to because I know it’s going to be something good!
What does the future hold for you?
I honestly don’t know. I was supposed to be touring around Europe this Summer, but instead, I’ve had the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle of maintaining a small garden on my patio, so who knows what the future will hold!

Everything will pass, so enjoy the simplest of moments in life no matter how small or seemingly insignificant they appear to be.
