Blaydek is the solo project of musician and designer Chris Blaydes. Blending fragrances of dream-pop with lo-fi indie, his project is the aftermath of growing up in the industrial city of Birmingham. Citing Talking Heads, Radiohead and Tame Impala as a few of his influences, ‘Don’t You Have a Thing Now?’ is a stunning introductory of shoegaze meeting synths.
On the release, Blaydek stated that ‘The original demo was scrapped, but then reinstated after an opinion post on on Instagram stories, where there was an overwhelming enthusiasm to re-record it a release as a single.’
Don’t You Have a Thing Now? is an excellent single that needs your full attention. Just under 5 minutes long, the track weaves through indie with nudges towards a subtle pop arrangement. Stated as a ‘daydreamers recess’, the track feels cinematic and ready for the silver screen.
