PREMIERE: ‘What Is a Girl to Do?’ by Marna

London-based alt-pop band Marna have released the first of a string of singles in 2019 with “What Is A Girl To Do?”. The trio, who draw inspirations from the likes of Lana Del Rey and Father John Misty, are fronted by Marnie Burt, who tallied hundreds of thousands of streams on Spotify previously as a solo project.

What Is a Girl to Do?, the title track of a four-track EP which is set to drop in April, signals a drastic shift in sound to something much more funky than previous material, and if this is anything to go by, it’s a change for the better.

On their new single, and the decision to ditch working behind the curtain of the music industry, front-woman Marnie says: “as an artist who also used to work at a label, I had to question my values and make a decision on whether to continue in a position that didn’t feel right, or to step back from the 9 to 5 and focus on my career as a songwriter. I chose the latter – I didn’t want to do this particular label’s dirty work.”

What Is a Girl to do? is available to stream on Spotify, SoundCloud & iTunes.
