NEW MUSIC: ‘Horizon’ by JOYYA

JOYYA is a duo who exiled themselves to London from the North East, no doubt to find their slice of success. While many people who move to the capital looking for the same golden challis, they often have a love-hate relationship with the city. And the pair’s latest single ‘Horizon’ documents just that.

The first thing that stands out about the song is its rich production; a work of art in its own right. ‘Horizon’ offers a gorgeous array of sounds with the synth trumpet solo/breakdown a personal highlight that crowns the song perfectly, brightening the song up and adding a Dub Pistols-like vibe. Also by raising up the mid-section and offsetting it against the more melancholic vocals of the verses, JOYYA expertly expresses the highs and lows of living in London. Overall the song has a positive message, just listen to the lyrics in the chorus to get the drift.

‘Horizon’ is a well-crafted song and stands up well on its own. But after listening to a couple of the band’s other songs, it seems whatever material they release in the future will be equally as intense and well-produced. It seems like JOYYA is on the path to a successful career.
