Get ready for a wave of funk to hit you like a slap in the face. Stemin‘s brand new single ‘Closer‘ has an introduction that sets it apart from the rest, opening with a flourish that really makes you pay close attention. With a funky electronic beat (I can already feel myself overusing the word ‘funky’, but trust me – that’s the only way to describe this groove) accompanied by swelling rhythmic synth that keeps the pulse riding along smoothly, the star of the show is a sound that I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s a mix between something similar to a trumpet, and a distorted organ; whatever it is it’s a pretty damn powerful sound. This earworm riff creeps back in throughout the tune, and constantly leaves you wanting more. Silky smooth production is the name of the game, and Stemin hits the ball out of the park on this one – there are an incredible array of interesting sounds that appear throughout the whole 3:16, and each one is intricately placed in order to help the overall picture of the song which results in a piece of music that feels delightfully absorbing without ever feeling too busy or overwhelming.
It seems there will be much more to behold; as Stemin has an eagerly anticipated 2nd album lined up by the name ‘#TellYourHeart’ which will is due for release in September. If the lead single ‘Closer‘ is anything to go by, it’s certainly not one to be missed.
