Introducing Johnny Kulo, Berlin’s rising indie-soul superstar with new single ‘Wrong’

Soul is one of those genres that can be reshaped into just about any form that any artist requires, you can go old-shcool, future, pop, jazz and so on. For Berlin’s promising new name Johnny Kulo, he’s opted for the groovier end of the spectrum as you’ll hear in his newest release ‘Wrong’. From start to finish, this is a laid-hack, crack-yo-neck listen that makes the most of Kulo’s smooth vocal which soars above a crunchy base of thick bass grooves and dynamic guitar riffs. The relaxed percussion also hints towards a chill-hop influence making this a perfect soundtrack for just about any setting. Digging in beneath the soundscape, ‘Wrong’ muses on the grey area between love and lust and all the mistakes that were made; his lyrics are unfiltered, “I don’t know why I ever let you go, but I know I was wrong”. His confession isn’t sugarcoated, but neither does Kulo overdo it. Speaking on the track, he explains that it’s “A song to send to your ex, an apology note of sorts. I don’t think every song needs to be immensely layered with emotion, I’d love for people to just get lost in the groove.”
