Hailing from New York, Leopold is an alternative artist making waves with a new single each month – or at least that’s the plan for 2020. Taking a moment, Leopold sits down and chats to us about his new single ‘Doubt’, what it’s like to be a musician, and what we can expect from him in the future.
Why did you enter the music industry?
I wanted to get rich and famous!
A strange question: I know a lot of people use stage names, so is Leopold your real name? If it is a stage name, why did you choose Leopold?
Real enough, for me. I used to conduct in front of the stereo playing Mozart as a toddler. I’ve had a lot of nicknames. *laughs*
What can you tell us about your single ‘Doubt’?
This originally wasn’t going to be released as a single; I thought it was more an album track – debut album slated for release in May 2020. The whole pandemic thing really got me feeling like I didn’t have a clue what was going on in the world and this song just felt like the best way to express that.
Was ‘Doubt’ easy to compose and record or were there some difficulties?
I mean, I’m completely DIY. I take tracks from start to finish, master them myself and record them myself, but this was one of the easiest tracks to write and sing. I probably only did it in a couple takes and didn’t write anything down. It felt pretty special and authentic.
Are you completely happy with ‘Doubt’ or do you feel something could be changed?
It’s perfect! A track can always be better, but that’s why you keep writing.
What do you feel is the most exciting thing about being a musician?
Probably the girls.
What is the most challenging aspect of being a new musician?
Probably the money.
Describe your music in one sentence.
A fancy synagogue.

The internet. Some TV and movies.
What do you think is your most interesting characteristic as a person?
Probably my beard, but there are a lot of them.
What can we expect from Leopold in the future?
A lot more gold.
