NEW MUSIC: Voodoo Bandits – Backyard Wrestling

Isle of Man indie-rockers release brand new single “Backyard Wrestling” on the perils of pursuing one’s dreams.

Voodoo Bandits are no stranger to Turtle Tempo – the last time you’ll have seen their name crop up on the blog is when they released their previous single “Yesterday’s Jam”, which was met with critical acclaim from many a music journalist. The Isle of Man four-piece has returned this month with brand new track “Backyard Wrestling” (where do they get these song titles from?!), another energetic indie-pop single to get your Tuesday going.

“Backyard Wrestling” is inspired by the struggles of pursuing those pesky, elusive dreams and ambitions – something I’m sure we can all relate to in such times of uncertainty – lead singer Ben Donaldson’s angsty lyrics ring true, calling out over fuzzy guitars and high-energy drums. Punk meets garage (an unlikely combination) in the catchy riffs layered over strong chord progressions, but as always, Voodoo Bandits make it sound ace.

Whilst in lockdown, the band have been making an effort to encourage their local indie music scene to bloom by teaming up with the Isle of Man’s finest bands and promoters. Their objective is to create a music community that their island can be truly proud of. Not just a bunch of pretty faces, are they?

With five singles and three music videos to their name in 2020 thus far, the future looks very bright for this young indie four-piece. As prolific as they are fun, you can expect to see Voodoo Bandits support the likes of BAYBOARDS and LOLA in the nearby future. Be sure to show them some love on social media…
