Brighton indie-pop DIY artist SOARE releases funky sophomore single “You”.
Lockdown hasn’t made life easy for songwriters and artists. Sudden lack of available studio space, equipment and access to collaborators (boy, am I sick of Zoom calls) has taken its toll on plenty – but not Soare. Soare has set himself apart from the rest of us with a can-do attitude towards his own DIY music, taking inspiration from whatever he can whilst remaining in the comfort of his own home. This time, he reflects on his own actions during his first romantic relationship.
“You” had big shoes to fill; Soare’s debut single, “High Ride”, did extraordinarily well on streaming services and tastemaker’s blogs. The latest release looks likely to go the same way, developing on the previous singles’ production and use of melodic hooks to create an even cleaner indie-pop sound. Soare injects a healthy dose of RnB influence into the guitar sounds and rhythms, and it’s this combined with the almost whispered verse vocal that contributes to his signature sound.
His style of bedroom pop seems reminiscent of Rex Orange County, with a touch of Tom Misch – witty quips and poetic rhyme form the foundation of Soare’s storytelling. He makes it look easy to write a song so wordy, yet so catchy, and to know that “You” was written, produced and performed all from his own bedroom is the icing on the cake. We love a smart DIY artist.
