London indie five-piece CALM unveil double release “Is There Anybody Alive Out There? / Something’s Changing”, inspired by the pandemic.
The bloggers at Turtle Tempo have been reviewing a plethora of lockdown-themed songs recently, but none like CALM’s double release; single “Is There Anybody Alive Out There?” and its B-side “Something’s Changing”. The A-side is a catchy exploration of isolation, featuring huge synths fit for the Pyramid stage and underpinned by a dark wit. “Something’s Changing” takes a wistful and considered approach, manifesting an image of a better world as the resulting effect of the Coronavirus, fuelled by the band’s interminable optimism, and expansive in its sound of glimmering synths, crashing drums and a sturdy bassline.
The future is bright for this DIY five-piece, with BBC Radio 6, BBC Introducing and Netflix show ‘Terrace House’ already championing their self-produced music. Be sure to follow CALM on social media to keep up with future news and releases…
