NEW MUSIC: Jenny Kern – Satellite

Canadian-born, New York-based singer-songwriter Jenny Kern releases atmospheric slow-burner “Satellite”.

Jenny Kern is a woman of many talents – before taking the leap of faith into music, she had worked her way up the ladder to become a producer in the film and television industry. Perhaps it’s this which influences the cinematic leaning of her writing style, with recent single “Satellite” (in a glorious display of prosody) swirling above the listener’s head like some omniscient celestial being. This song was produced by Andy Seltzer (Maggie Rogers, Chelsea Cutler) who adds his own spark to a sky that Jenny has already lit up with her star quality and emotive storytelling.

“Satellite” hints at influence from London Grammar, with deep, swirling guitar chords and soaring melodies. The raw intension of Jenny’s expressive lyrics is complemented by layers of found sounds and percussion, driving this slow-burner to its rapturous ending chorus, drenched in space and lightness as though drifting through zero gravity. With her previous release “Slow Burn” capturing the ears and the hearts of everybody who listened, the heart-on-sleeve approach Jenny takes to “Satellite” is sure to garner even more fans from every corner of the world. She explains of that song that “It’s almost cathartic, sharing emotion. Being open is not an easy feat for anyone. I want people to know that these songs come from an honest place. We all struggle to find comfort in ourselves while being open to the unexpected.”
