NEW MUSIC: The Attic Movement – Truth Be Told

The Attic Movement release new single “Truth Be Told”, a melancholy ode to the need for new experiences.

The Attic Movement is the brainchild of songwriter Matt Williams, who teamed up with Grammy award-winning engineer Chris Wilkinson to bring a series of lo-fi demo recordings to life – of which new single “Truth Be Told” is one. For fans of Radiohead’s moody atmospheres and Coral-esque organs, The Attic Movement flaunt a sound that is both timeless and comforting.

Matt Williams describes the sentiment behind “Truth Be Told” as a desperate search for pastures new, with lyrics centred around a strong desire to up-and-leave underpinning the melancholic tone. This song seems very much an answer to the turbulent times of late, where the majority of us will be suffering from a touch of cabin fever, wondering what experiences we might be missing out on this Summer. Despite the mournful words, angelic harmonies ebb and flow throughout the track, creating beautiful moments of sweetness that build with sweeping guitars to an epic finalé. The Attic Movement leave us on a cliffhanger, never fully revealing how the story ends.

Support in 2019 from BBC Introducing Sheffield and Amazing Radio has proved enduring, with BBC Radio Leeds, Sheffield and York having already spun “Truth Be Told” since its release in May. It’s no wonder The Attic Movement’s music has proved popular with listeners nationally – clever writing and stunning soundscapes set this project apart from Sheffield’s many Indie Rock bands. Be sure to listen to “Truth Be Told” – you won’t regret it.
