In Conversation with Edith

Pop sensation Edith has released a brand new single called ‘Sad Girls Make Bad Boys Cry’. An ode to summer heartbreak, but at the same time empowering females, this track has a dynamic sound ala Lorde and Ariana Grande. We spoke with Edith about ‘Sad Girls Make Bad Boys Cry’, discovering new music and much more!

Why did you decide to enter the music industry?

It’s all I ever knew since I was a toddler. I just loved singing and at the age of 12, I started playing guitar and writing my own songs. I think it’s so much fun.

Can you tell us about your single ‘Sad Girls Make Bad Boys Cry’?

This is one of my favourite singles of my new EP. I wrote this song while going through a hard time and thought of how boys who think they are bad for messing with us and breaking our hearts. This is very relatable among us, but I wanted girls to feel empowered and know that they can break their hearts even when they are sad. There are many implied lines in this song; I tried to compare hot and cold, sad and happy, summer and winter just so I can get the point across.

It is a summer heartbreak anthem but making me feel like I am in power of the situation. I wrote the song in about 20 minutes and I knew exactly what I wanted it to sound like, so I went straight into the studio and played it to the producer I work with in London. We both thought it would be the perfect song for a romantic chick-flick or high school movie. It just gives off the free summery romance vibe.

Does the single have any significant meaning for you?

Yeah, it does. It made me get over a certain situation in my life. Every time I listen I think “oh, I am so over that now”.

What do you hope people take from the single?

I hope people relate to it and make up their own story to the song. It is important that we bond through music and through personal experiences. At the end of the day, we all feel love and pain the same way.

What is more challenging for you – melody or lyrics?

I’m not sure because when I write I go with the flow and try to make the song sound like the feeling I felt when I was going through that certain situation.

How do you keep yourself motivated?

Honestly, I think a healthy balance between work and relaxation is key. I write when I feel inspired. When I don’t I try not to be harsh on myself, just try the next day.

How would you describe your sound?

I think a ride down Beverly Hills Boulevard is what it sounds like.

What do you think is the best way to discover new music?

I think looking into playlists such as New Pop are great ways of discovering new and upcoming geniuses.

What does the rest of 2020 hold for Edith?

As it stands now, gigs are obviously not a thing at the moment, but I have plans to release another EP. I just don’t know when for sure.

Do you have a message for our readers?

Yes, I do. I’d like to say that if you enjoyed my music please follow me on Instagram for upcoming news and events. It would help me so much as an independent artist to build a bigger, stronger fanbase and expand my audience. Thank you for listening to me and thank you for the interview.
