NEW MUSIC: Ellysse Mason – Something Good

Ellysse Mason gets creative during lockdown with a self-produced music video for new single “Something Good”.

If you’re looking for “Something Good” to listen to, look no further. Alt-pop polymath Ellysse Mason has just released the first single of a new campaign to follow her huge 2018 track “Hunt Me Down”. The Manchester musician has switched things up with this stripped-back sound, delicately put together and totally self-written and self-produced.

There is something to be said for an independent artist selling out The Deaf Institute and Academy 3, not to mention having supported Tom Walker on tour. It’s clear as day that Ellysse works a kind of magic that few artists possess, having bewitched so many fans with her down-to-earth lyricism and light-as-a-feather vocal delivery.

“Something Good” is a track that showcases Ellysse’s refined songwriting talent, with hooks and hard-hitting lyrics galore. She addresses the ups and downs of depression in a confrontational, yet very warm manner. With a video self-filmed, self-directed and self-produced in the space of 24 hours, her hardworking nature shines through the lethargy that lockdown has the innate ability of inspiring in the best of us, and the result is gripping.

Ellysse speaks of her time in lockdown: “I found it difficult in isolation, just like everyone else. I like the outside and usually can’t stay in for longer than a day before I go mad. But it also forced this positive mindset onto me, because I’ve had to be. It’s like the world just stopped turning for a second, and it’s given me time to be creative. I managed to come up with a music video that can hopefully resonate with so many people.”

I get the distinct feeling that Ellysse isn’t done impressing us yet – she has even more great music in the locker that we cannot wait to hear. Be sure to follow her on social media to stay up to date…
