NEW MUSIC: Robert Vendetta – Out Of My League

An explosion of distorted drum samples carry this cleverly crafted three minutes and forty-four seconds of carefully controlled mayhem, mixed with enough pop hooks to make it easily accessible after your first listen, however also enough edge to keep you engaged for many more: Robert Vendetta’s latest tune feels like a caressing slap to the face. The Norwegian artist performance on the record oozes charisma and confidence; with a combination of evident musicality alongside pure swagger makes this tune a joy to listen to. A rockabilly-esque piano swings alongside the aforementioned distorted rhythmic section, the juxtaposition of which has the potential to feel uneasy – however ‘Out Of My League‘ seems aware of its own Pop/Rock infused sensibilities: and this creates a dynamic, driving feel to the tune – whilst also giving the suggestion of not taking itself too seriously. The single is the namesake for the artist’s latest album, featuring 12 different tracks self-described by the artist as ‘Retropop’. The balance of old and new seems to be quite the hook for Robert Vendetta, as the release follows is 2017 album ‘Miss Martinez‘ which granted him radio success with its singles. As a fan of his latest release, it’ll be interesting to see what’s lined up next for an artist cementing his position as a flag-bearer for well crafted and progressive pop songs.
