From the first filtered arpeggiated riff of this pop masterclass, you know that you’re safe in the musical hands of Ryan Nealon. What transcends after the first few pulsating rhythms sets the toe-tapping tone for following two minutes and thirty-five seconds:: a laid-back, radio-friendly, 80’s inspired synth-pop anthem – filled eagerly up to the brim with optimism and opportunity in equal measure. The lyrics emphasise the tricky reality of getting back on your feet after heartbreak, with the verses questioning the uncertainty associated with beginning life again post-romance, whilst the chorus lands confidently in the moment of euphoric joy that arrives when you realise there’s still hope.
What feels most remarkable about this beautifully produced track is how smoothly Ryan Nealon’s vocal sits effortlessly on top of the musical bed. The delivery of which is reminiscent in timbre to Sam Smith, at least during the more introspective moments of the verses – however, Ryan shifts into a higher gear when we arrive full-speed at the instantaneous and uplifting chorus section. With such attention-grabbing moments scattered throughout the track, it’s difficult to imagine not hearing the song on your radio in the near future – and even harder to imagine a world where this artist isn’t potentially filling stadiums with a few more bangers such as this one. “Ready To Love Again” cements itself as the first release of the year for Ryan Nealon. However, it seems as if there will be many more; as the LA-based singer-songwriter is lining up the release of his eagerly awaited debut EP within the coming months.
