Victoria’s Flight – aka Glasgow-based childhood friends Craig Harkness and Matt Robertson kick-start a summer of new music with the first of three singles, Paradise.
Narrating a relatable tale of falling fast for someone new – and all the excitement and trepidation that comes with that experience – Paradise is an intoxicatingly catchy concoction of indie guitar licks and chanting vocal hooks.
I had a chat to Craig and Matt to find out more about the band and their future plans…
Hey guys! How long have you been making music together?
We have played about with music for a good few years, but only really made a conscious decision to make music as a band in 2017.
Congrats on your new single Paradise. What’s the story behind the song?
Thanks! It’s about reactions and how when you meet someone, even though at the time you might not know it, a journey is beginning. Maybe it’s to a kind of Paradise, maybe it’s not.
How was the single recorded / produced?
We recorded the single between Glasgow and with producer Sam Cramer at Studio 13 in London.
I see you’ve got a couple of live shows coming up. What’s your dream venue?
Somewhere iconic. We always talk about playing New York one day, like the Bowery or something. If SNL would have us, then their studio would be ok as well. Although, Broadcast in Glasgow (where we are playing our next gig on the 11th of May) has a real nice vibe!
Who are your biggest musical influences?
Bit of a mish-mash really. From the Beach Boys and Motown to Paul Simon and Blur. Music has always been this huge focal point of both of our lives growing up.
