Put on a pair of headphones and slip into a dream with Polish producer’s Rudovsky’s new album Trash – released on Brooklyn-based label Postseason Franchise Records.
With downtempo electronics akin to the likes of Four Tet and Bonobo, Trash navigates a diverse sonic landscape – drawing influence from jazz, minimalism and backbeat rhythms.
Rudovsky is also a screen writer and film director, and there’s definitely a strong sense of curation and narrative throughout the record.
I caught up with Rudovsky to find out more about how the album was made and his story so far…
Hey Rudovsky! Can you introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey! I was born in Cracow, Poland in the mid ’80s. I grew up in a very artistic environment. My father is a sculptor and my mother is a painter.
When I was young, I thought I would be a professional basketball player, but life had another plan for me. Everything changed when I was 20 years old and I became immersed in art. I started writing poems and exploring music to connect with emotions and share them with people around me.
You’ve recently released your new record Trash. It’s a beautiful, dreamy downtempo record that explores many different spaces and genres. How did you go about writing / recording it?
There was no solid plan for me to make this album actually – the songs came naturally.
I’m a seeker-type of producer, so I look for that one sound from which I can begin the creative process. When I find it, I try to understand what inspires me in that particular moment – whether it is the environment, a film scene, quote, people, smell from the past or maybe just the taste of white wine I drink. All the music I create is produced for that experience.

There are so many music influencers in my life. Where to start?
Four Tet, Bonobo, Maurice Ravel, Cinematic Orchestra, The Herbaliser, Blockhead, Amon Tobin, Morton Feldman, Toru Takemitsu, Terry Riley, Krzysztof Komeda, Fink, Wu Tang Clan, Ennio Morricone, Eric Satie, Waclaw Zimpel, DJ Food, Arvo Part, DJ Shadow, Skalpel. Ninja Tune’s artists for sure.
And when it comes to film: Jim Jarmusch, Wim Wenders, Jean Luc Godard, Clint Eastwood, Roman Polanski. There are so many many levels on which I connect with art.
What’s your favourite track from the album and why?
I love Casablanbca. It’s dark, mysterious and totally un-obvious. Like a noir film.
I love the artwork. Who made it?
A couple of months ago I met a girl, Anna. Suddenly it turned out that we are very similar characters. We fell in love.
I asked her to make artworks for all my albums, and she did it perfectly. This is the happiest thing that has happened to me in a long time. Women have been muses to me since the first time I saw my father’s sculptures and will be a long-lasting inspiration for me.
If you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Definitely Four Tet and Terry Riley.
Have you got any plans to perform the record live?
Yes, but we will see what the future brings.
