NEW MUSIC: ‘Citizen’ by Late TV

‘Citizen’ is the latest single from jazz-funk maestros Late TV. With an intro that sounds like the opening music to a low budget, high octane American detective TV show; it is difficult to take seriously at first. But, luckily the tackiness of those dramas isn’t reflected throughout Late TV’s music. The song is an unusual blend of jazz-funk and art-rock, which presents some complex and flamboyant instrumental themes.

Late TV is a rare breed of band. If successful the band will provide a fresh sound, and approach to music making, in an electronic world. Think house band from a late-night talk show, or B-movie soundtracks. ‘Citizen’ serves the listener the perfect amount of cheese, while the song’s length of four minutes leaves you wanting more.

Like a band version of Mr. Scruff, Late TV experiment with their music, stretching themselves to create interesting songs. So don’t be put off by the term ‘jazz’. This isn’t in anyway dusty or old-fashioned, (not that I would describe jazz in those terms), but some people feel that way. Give Late TV a listen and you’ll be pleasantly surprised that jazz is your thing after all.
