Who are the Top 5 biggest influences on your sound right now?
That’s hard because a lot of the music I listen to isn’t exactly of the genre I write. I’ll always be influenced by Norah Jones as a result of my mum playing her consistently throughout my youth. I’m extremely into Dermot Kennedy and the way he rights lyrics. Predominantly I adored his sound but went on to explore his lyrics further as, as a songwriter, they excited me. James Vincent Mcmorrow is incredible. Not to mention Lucy Rose and I’m a major Sigrid fan as well as Lianne La Havas and Dagny.
Any other new acts that you’ve played with and would recommend?
I’ve played with Youth Club and Martin Luke Brown who are both grade A class humans. I haven’t played with them, but I’d recommend listening to ISLAND, Anteros, Ten Tonnes and The Tin Pigeons.
Is there a dream venue you would love to play?
My dream is Brixton Academy – sorry not sorry. I know it’s big but I’m very much up for just sitting on the side of the stage if people won’t let me on.
Your first EP is called Angry Face & Boat Shoes, how did decide on the name?
This is basically a Twitter meme that went too far. I put out a photo of me playing live, posing with an aggressive expression whilst sporting boat shoes. I jokingly caption it ‘Angry Face & Boat Shoes’ then BAM. A follower suggested it as an EP title and it felt like had just found a matching pair of socks.
And finally, what does the rest of 2017 hold for you?
2017 sees me mainly writing and creating with perhaps the odd London gig thrown in there for good measure! Oh and I’m 21 so that’ll be fun.
