PREMIERE: “Darker Shade Of Black” by The Vex

The Vex share lead track Darker Shade Of Black from their self-titled new EP, out 21 April. It is the band’s third EP and they’ve up the ante on this release.

The London band combine rock ‘n’ roll edginess and soul-stirring reggae. A mix of styles that creates a unique sound, one that is full of hooks and melodies. And the result is interesting, to say the least.

Taking the energy of punk and setting it against Jamaican rhythms, the song is a call to arms for freedom of speech. Hence they sound like The Clash with heavier guitars. The Vex are pioneers of the heavy rocksteady genre, and Carl Barat from The Libertines describes them as the best live band he’s seen for a while.
