The 10 Best Breakthrough Acts of 2016 is our very own countdown of some of the best artists that have set the blogosphere alight in the last 12 months. We guarantee that if you haven’t heard of any of these acts, you’ll certainly be in awe of them now.
This week, we’ve been counting down to Christmas and counting up two at a time as we name our #10 favourite acts of the year. You can see who finished 3rd and 4th in our list here.
At #2 is Leeds-based band Marsicans. The self-declared “dirty-pop” band formed in their GCSE Music class, the guys also enjoy skateboarding and learning Japanese in their spare time. They’re touring the Netherlands in January, before heading off to France for their first ever gig in the capital – Paris.
You can read our natter with lead singer James Newbigging here.
#1 is Viola Beach. The band’s name will be known throughout the world by the tragedy which occurred this year to the four-piece consisting of Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin, and their manager Craig Tarry.
While we think of the friends and family of Viola Beach at this undoubtedly uneasy time of year, we feel that their euphoric music which they created in their short time together deserves a celebration.
The incredible thing about music is that it lives on Earth for an eternity, music is timeless and simply does last forever.
With that said – so will Viola Beach. The Warrington quartet’s uplifting sounds will be played over and over again, and rightly so.
