Friday’s Finest is a weekly collaborative post between us at Turtle Tempo, It’s All Indie & Nexus Music Blog. As each week we pick a track that we have been loving for the past 7 days with the post going up on one our respected blogs.
Dan from Turtle Tempo’s pick – Dutchkid – Flight
Since releasing their highly acclaimed debut EP ‘Empires’ in 2018, South-East London alt-pop collective Dutchkid have been in the studio working away on brand new music.
The new release is one of a string of releases that the quartet are set to bless us with this year, and it certainly whets the appetite for more. Flight is bound to get you feeling pumped up and feeling like you can accomplish absolutely anything.
Already building a massive reputation as an incredible live band, Dutchkid head out on a mini UK tour in December playing Brighton, London & Manchester – tickets can be found here.
Fred from It’s All Indie’s pick: James White – Citizen of Nowhere
When I first heard James play “Citizen of Nowhere” in his lounge back in 2017 I thought it sounded alright, with a good base to build a rock track off, and that’s exactly what he’s gone and done, turned an acoustic track into a politically charged rock track featuring one of his teen idols. From recording an acoustic EP and a more ‘Indie’ EP last time out with “Turned Out”, James now has taken a turn for the more rock route.
Raising money for charities is in his blood with this single being released to raise money for MIND. Also on this new effort is the one and only Billy Lunn from The Subways being featured on backing vocals on the politically charged track, which references Theresa May’s inaugural Tory Party conference speech and includes references to things such as the Westminster paedophile dossier.
The single is out now and has already achieved a #6 place in Amazon’s MP3 chart, not bad for a boy from Saffron Walden. Head on down to check it out, we wouldn’t blog about it if it’s not worth your time! With a sell out show in Cambridge already under his belt – and yes, it was a belter of a show – be sure to follow James on his socials for more details of shows, including his European tour this month.
Michael from Nexus Music Blog’s pick: Andy Clark – I Love Joyce Morris
Andy Clark is one of few people that comes to mind when I think about great songwriting. The structure of the tracks that he puts out. It feels almost like a craft. It’s an individual profession all of it’s own. Producing work that you feel has been given the ‘fine toothpick’ treatment. With an atmospheric and alluring conjuring for your senses.
There is a strong sense of direction in all that Andy Clark does. And with his latest release in “I Love Joyce Morris”, you can rest assured you’ll be yearning for more. The only way to truly appreciate the wholesome and humble nature of Andy’s talent is to take a listen to this album. And knowing it is time well spent, and somewhat a masterpiece in it’s own right? It just makes me more than happy to recommend it and share it with you.
