Beneath the Surface: LOR

Happy Friday one and all! It’s a wonderfully sunny afternoon & I’m joined by a wonderfully talented singer-songwriter, who has just released her debut single, ‘Used To.’ LOR is Toronto’s newest voice in alternative RnB and our latest Beneath the Surface guest star!
1. What first got you into music/who inspired you to make music?
My dad. He was always singing and playing guitar around our house so I was naturally drawn to music, playing guitar, singing and making up my own songs even before I could talk.
2. How would you describe the music you are currently creating?
To be honest it’s a mashup of all of my inspirations and music that I’ve grown up on. Has a little rock, hip hop, folk, reggae and alt-pop vibe to it.
3. What does your creative process look like?
It’s different every time. I often get a melody stuck in my head and just go off that. I love to write songs with my guitar and go into the studio with that as well. I’m also constantly writing lyrics even without a specific direction. I never know what’s gonna come out or how it’s going to sound from start to finish. I think that’s what also makes it fun for me. Turning a feeling into a sound is what I try hardest to do. I only write from a very personal and real place of how I’m feeling at the time.
4. Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)
This is a hard one but I think I have to say Jack White.
5. What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?
Let yourself feel what you feel, don’t ever be ashamed of feeling anything. You need to feel it to know it. And listen to your intuition. Do what fuels you, makes you feel good and be in tune enough to know what doesn’t.
6.What’s your top tip to rejuvenate your creativity/get over a writer’s block?
Whenever I have writer’s block I know it’s just myself getting in my own way. I know that music and writing is in my veins so I try not to focus on getting over it but just getting through it and knowing that not every song I write is going to be good or even turn into a song.
7. What’s next for you, what do we have to look forward to/ what are you currently working on?
Music music music all-new music!! I’m so excited to finally be able to share it all. I find a lot of my songs have completely different vibes and sounds to them, so I hope that there’s a bit of something for everyone to take away from. Lots of music videos and merch on the way too!!
